Custom Workstations & Automation Equipment

In addition to Robotic End-of-Arm Tooling >SAS< Automation also produces custom workstations and automation equipment.

  • Punch Press Degaters for precision cutting of fan gates
  • Degating Fixtures for cold runner degating
  • Knife Degators for degating long edge gates
  • Rotary tables, lift tables, and shuttle tables for loading and unloading parts and inserts
  • Chute fixtures for part separation and collection

Degater station

>SAS< Automation announces a new Lift Degater as part of their continuing efforts to provide injection molders with additional downstream automation.

This new Lift Degater was designed for large plastics parts. A robot transports the part to the SAS Lift Degater and sets the part into the “part conforming nests”, located at the top of the degater. The part is then trimmed by several precisely positioning cutting tools that match to the nests. Precision and speed are coupled with several simultaneous cutting actions.

The waste trim is dropped directly into a container and the finished molded part is lowered on the lift table to be removed by a packer. The packer is protected from the lift by a safety light curtain.

SAS produces custom degaters using lift tables, rotary tables and stationary cutting presses depending on the specific application. Most systems, similar to the lift table described above, are operated pneumatically.

Secondary automation equipment is important to any robotic cell. As a specialist in robotic end-of-arm tooling, SAS has the automation expertise to take the part from the mold, and continue its movement until its final destination. SAS is experienced in both automatic insert-molding applications, runner separation and automatic post-mold degating equipment for a wide variety of part shapes and weights.

SAS Automation – Introduces New Rail Degater

SAS introduces a compact, modular degating system for fan gates that will greatly enable companies to reduce their finishing labor costs, and more importantly, provide consistent clean cuts for fan gates. Mounted on a rigid frame, this degating unit can be designed to trim either straight or curved fan gates. Radiuses as small as one inch (25.4 mm) can be achieved for curved fan gates.

If and when necessary, the cutting blade can be heated using solid state controls thus requiring less force to make the cut. The cutter blade driving mechanism can be selected from either a pneumatic cylinder or belt driven from a motor drive. In addition to a floor mount, this degating unit can also be easily mounted to a gantry robot beam for more complex degating.

According to SAS Automation, General Manager, Richard Petz, “The SAS Rail Degater incorporates innovative modular systems that provide precision cutting for either straight or curved fan gates. Processors will appreciate reducing finishing costs, and the user friendliness of this degater. Increasing speed to market with better cutting -- is a driving force behind the many degaters designed by SAS. We are proud to present such a labor efficient degater.”

New Guillotine Gate Trimmer

SAS Automation introduces a new gate trimmer for plastics parts called: Guillotine Gate Trimmer.

This tool is designed with a razor sharp blade positioned at a 45 degree angle to precisely shear a sprue gate in hard to reach narrow places.

The equipment was designed to hold the blade on a special cylinder to precisely actuate the gate cutting process. The cylinder can be mounted in many angles to access hard to reach sprue gates. This style of gate cutting uniquely allows for a very hard to reach areas to become accessed with this actuated guillotine motion from the cylinder.

This results in an easy-to-use, compact, affordable degater, designed to greatly improve production efficiencies and product quality.

According to Richard Petz, General Manager for SAS Automation “This degater will be appreciated by anyone needing precision cutting from awkward locations. Taking up small production floor space is another feature of this degater.”
